Write for us
We welcome pitches from writers with a clear question about sport and the patience to explain it precisely. Send proposals through the Contact page; a focused idea is more useful than a finished article sent without context.
What fits
We are interested in accessible explanations of rules, tactical patterns, competition formats, sporting language, traditions and the experience of watching or playing. Strong proposals have an evergreen point, a defined reader and a subject distinct from what we already cover. We welcome varied sporting perspectives and do not require a particular level of fame or access.
Shape a pitch
Use the Contact page to tell us the working title, central question, likely structure and why the piece will help a curious general reader. Mention the sport and any particular competition or setting that limits the scope. If the idea depends on reporting, say what material or access it would require. A short, specific proposal gives us more to assess than a broad subject such as sport and society.
Clear, careful writing
We look for plain language, accurate terminology and a distinction between established fact and personal interpretation. Explain specialist terms when readers need them, avoid unsupported claims and disclose relevant interests or affiliations. Do not include confidential information or assume a reader needs professional advice to follow a piece.
A game has more than one kind of score
Rules, rituals and playing spaces tell their own stories. We make those details easier to notice without treating one way of watching sport as the only way.
