Editorial policy

Modern Sport Culture aims to make sport clearer without making it smaller. Our work is explanatory and cultural: we value accuracy, visible distinctions between fact and interpretation, and corrections when the record calls for them.

Accuracy and context

We check factual claims against suitable sources and take care with rules, terminology and historical context. Rules and competition formats can change, so we identify the scope of an explanation when that distinction matters. We do not present a general account as a substitute for the current rules of a particular competition. If a point remains uncertain or disputed, we say so rather than smoothing it over.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made for readers, not as a condition of a commercial arrangement. Partnerships do not buy favourable coverage, and we do not let a partner determine an article's conclusions. We keep the distinction between editorial material and commercial material clear.

Corrections

If you spot a factual error or a meaningful omission, send a message through the Contact page and identify the relevant article and passage. We review correction requests, amend confirmed errors and make the change clear when the correction materially affects a reader's understanding.

Partner material and illustrations

Paid, sponsored or otherwise commercial material is labelled so readers can recognise its nature; partner links and placements are identified in their context. Some illustrations may be generated with AI. Where an illustration is AI-generated, we label it accordingly and do not present it as documentary evidence.

Our point of view

A game has more than one kind of score

Rules, rituals and playing spaces tell their own stories. We make those details easier to notice without treating one way of watching sport as the only way.
